Multiple areas in Tamil Nadu are likely to witness light to moderate rain with the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning in the next seven days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The met agency also predicted light to moderate rain at isolated places in Puducherry and Karaikal areas in the next few days.
The IMD stated that Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Chengalpattu and Tiruvannamalai districts of Tamilnadu along with Puducherry and Karaikal are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places on Monday.
The meteorological department also warned of heavy rain over Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Virudhunagar, Thanjavur, Kallakurichi, Salem, Vellore, Ranipet, Kanchipuram, Chennai and Thiruvallur districts of Tamil Nadu.
Many places over South Tamil Nadu and a few places over North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and Karaikal area are likely to witness light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning at one or two places on January 9, the IMD forecast stated. The IMD added that Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts of Tamil Nadu will receive heavy rains on Tuesday.

The maximum temperature is likely to be 26-27 degrees and the minimum temperature is likely to be 22-23 degrees today, the release added. Meanwhile, due to incessant rain in several districts, the Tamil Nadu government declared a holiday for educational institutions including schools and colleges in eight districts of the state.
