Tamil Nadu Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday stated that several districts of Tamil Nadu, including capital city Chennai, will receive light to heavy rainfall for the next few days. The weather department stated that while the coastal region is expected to witness heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms and gusty winds, the other districts are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall. It further stated that the rainfall will reduce the temperature by two to four degrees Celsius, providing major relief from the scorching heat. The weather department has advised the residents to follow the guidelines and limit their outings to avoid inconveniences.

While providing details, the weather department stated that several districts, including Chennai, Ranipet, Villupuram, Puducherry, Tiruvallur, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tenkasi, Dindigul, Theni, Thoothukudi, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Sivaganga, Chengalpattu, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Ramanathapuram, Namakkal, Tirunelveli, Tiruppur, Kanniyakumari, Madurai, and Virudhunagar, are likely to witness light to heavy rainfall for the next few days.

Apart from rainfall, these districts are also likely to witness thunderstorms and gusty winds with speeds of 80 to 100 kmph. The weather department stated that while the maximum temperature in Chennai is likely to be recorded at 32 degrees Celsius, the minimum temperature is expected to remain around 27 degrees Celsius. It further stated that the humidity in the capital city of Tamil Nadu is likely to remain around 77 per cent.

The IMD stated that while the rainfall will provide relief from the heat, it will lead to other issues such as waterlogging and power outages. It also advised the residents of the coastal regions to avoid any financial activities during the rainfall. It further stated that a cyclonic circulation over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and the South Andaman Sea has led to rainfall in several states, including Kerala, Maharashtra, and Karnataka.
