Tamil Nadu Weather Update: In the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah, Tamil Nadu has experienced a period of significant precipitation over the last ten days. The rainfall has been particularly intense in the northern districts of the state, including the capital city of the state, Chennai. 

Notable areas that recorded significant rainfall include Uthukkottai (Tiruvallur), receiving the highest amount at 9 cm, followed by several stations in Chennai and Chengalpattu, which registered heavy rainfall of 7 cm and 6 cm.

Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Forecast For 6 Days

According to the IMD, moderate rainfall is likely to fall in Tamil Nadu for the next 6 days. The weather department has also forecasted light to moderate rainfall in the southern districts of the state over the next 6 days. 

The Chennai Meteorological Department, in a press release, said that the current rainfall prevailing in the state is due to an atmospheric low-level circulation prevailing over the southwest Bay of Bengal and the adjacent areas. Light to moderate rainfall will also happen in Puducherry and Karaikal areas today, December 6. From tomorrow, December 7, till December 11, light to moderate rain is likely to occur at one or two places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal areas.

Tamil Nadu Weather Update: How Is The Weather In Chennai?

The local weather department forecasts partly cloudy conditions for the city today, December 6. Light to moderate rainfall, possibly with thunder and lightning, is likely in a few parts. The temperature is anticipated to peak around 29-30°C and drop to about 24°C.

IMD Alert For These Districts

The weather department has stated that light rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely to occur in the following districts until 10 am today:

- Coimbatore

- Cuddalore

- Mayiladuthurai

- Nagapattinam

- Theni

- Nilgiris

- Thiruvarur

- Villupuram 

Similar weather conditions will be there in Puducherry and Karaikal also.
