Social Media Influencer Tanya Mittal triggered backlash from a section of his followers and netizens after stating, ''Terrorism has no religion,'' in the aftermath of the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that left 26 people dead. Her remarks quickly ignited calls for boycotts and several users claimed she was associated with the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Department as an ambassador.

Addressing the sensitive situation, Mittal remarked, ''Saying anything on this issue is critical and sensitive for me. In the media, there is talk of terrorists and terrorism. I, on the other hand, think terrorism has no religion.'' She further shared that local Kashmiris helped her friends during the crisis, adding, ''India has only one religion Bhartia (Indian). We are all Indians and we are together in this.''

Mittal, who has a significant following on Instagram and YouTube, said her comments were intended to promote unity. However, many social media users criticised her for allegedly downplaying the gravity of the terror attack.

In response to the controversy, the Madhya Pradesh government issued a prompt clarification, distancing itself from Mittal. The state’s tourism department stated, ''Please note that Ms. Tanya Mittal is not associated with MP Tourism in any capacity.''  The clarification came after multiple media reports and social media posts linked her to the state’s tourism department, prompting officials to set the record straight and prevent further misinformation.
