Tehri Acro Festival 2024: The much-anticipated Acro World Championship and Aero Show 2024 kickstarted in Tehri, Uttarakhand, today, December 19, and will continue till December 23. This four-day event, organised by the Uttarakhand Tourism Department Board (UTDB), aims at developing the Tehri Lake area as a hub of acro paragliding.

The festival, which is being organised with the help of M/s Paragliding Mantra, Pune (Maharashtra) and the district administration, will feature participants from ten countries, including India, Turkey, the US, Czech Republic, Spain, Russia, Switzerland, France, Iran, Hungary, and Albania. Thirty foreign acro pilots, 102 Indian SIV pilots, 25 tandem pilots, and five BASE jumpers have signed up to compete.

Tehri MLA Kishore Upadhyay also participated in paragliding on the opening day of the Acro Paragliding Championship.

Paragliding will be done from Kuttha village near New Tehri to Koti Colony and from Pratapnagar Hill to Koti Colony on the lakeshore. In addition, there will be a National SIV Competition, in which young people from Uttarakhand who are trained in paragliding will compete.

Tourism Secretary and CEO of UTDB Sachin Kurve on Wednesday said: “The Tehri Acro Festival not only promises an exhilarating experience for participants but also serves as a platform to showcase paragliding to the international community, firmly placing Tehri on the global paragliding map.”

Major Attractions, Contests

Free tandem paragliding trips will be provided for guests and locals during the event to enhance the show's appeal and boost public engagement. Interested parties must register for the rides at the venue for free. Base jumping and paragliding aero show performances will also be planned for the amusement of the event's attendees. The victors of the national-level SIV competition and the Acro Championship will receive a total of Rs 14.50 lakh in prize money.
