Telangana police on Sunday arrested Telangana BJP state president N Ramchander Rao at his residence in Tarnaka after he tried to leave for Kamareddy district. The arrest was made after Rao intended to meet the BJP workers who got injured in a recent clash with the Congress workers. While he was initially put under house arrest, Rao was taken into custody after he reportedly tried to proceed despite restrictions. Rao slammed the Congress government in Telangana by alleging that the grand old party has brought the Emergency era to the state.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Rao asserted that the Telangana police arrested him for "standing up for the Hindus" of Kamareddy district. "The Anti-Hindu, Muslim League Maoist Congress has arrested me and are taking me to Bollarum PS for standing up for the Hindus of Banswada and for our karyakartas in Kamareddy," Rao asserted in his post.

"The Congress government in Telangana is bringing back memories of the dark days of the 1975 Emergency, when opposition leaders were arrested at will and throttled into silence during Indira Gandhi's era," he added.

He further stated that the Congress has attacked the principles of the Constitution by not allowing him to visit the victims of the clash. "Today, exactly such circumstances are repeating in our state. The Congress Party, which has completely stooped to thuggish politics, is continuing a series of illegal arrests targeting those who question it, in the aftermath of the Bansuwada and Kamareddy incidents," the state BJP chief stated.
"By preventing me from undertaking those visits, the Congress government has not merely stopped one political leader; it has directly attacked the Constitution and the spirit of democracy," he added. However, the officials stated that preventive measures were taken to ensure that law and order were maintained in the sensitive area.
