Chaos erupted at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Babatpur when a foreign national on board a Varanasi-Bengaluru IndiGo flight claimed he was carrying a bomb, PTI reported citing the police. The incident took place on Saturday night when the flight was about to take off.
According to reports, Indigo Airlines flight 6E 499 was about 30 minutes behind schedule and began taxiing to the runway at around 10:24 PM. At that moment, a Canadian passenger named Yohanathan Nishikant got up from his assigned seat and sat on a seat towards the front. When a crew member asked him to return to his seat, he got agitated. In a threatening tone, he said, “There’s a bomb in my bag, you all will die”. As per Jagran.com, he also shouted religious slogans like “Allahu Akbar,” “Har Har Mahadev,” and “Jai Shri Ram.”

Hearing this, the crew members and passengers got terrified. The aircraft was instructed by ATC to return to the apron for isolation, and a thorough inspection of the plane was carried out throughout the night. The Canadian national, who made the threat, was arrested and handed over to the Phoolpur police. He is being questioned by the agencies.
“Following the bomb scare, the aircraft was moved to the isolation bay for a thorough inspection, but no explosive material was found,” Puneet Gupta, Director of the airport, said.
Gupta mentioned that the IndiGo crew quickly notified Air Traffic Control (ATC) after the passenger made the threat.
The flight was grounded and checked following standard security procedures. Once security agencies gave the all-clear, the plane took off for Bengaluru on Sunday morning, officials said.
