The alleged rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl in Baruipur, South 24 Parganas district, West Bengal, has caused widespread outrage. Rebel Trinamool Congress MP Saayoni Ghosh visited the victim's family in connection with the incident.

However, when Saayoni Ghosh arrived in Baruipur,  she was met with protesters as members of the crowd raised slogans calling her a 'traitor.' Protesters also criticised her for breaking away from Mamata Banerjee.

Videos of the crowd chanting 'Gaddar' and 'Beimaan' at Ghosh, with some shouting, 'How much were you sold for?' as she arrived in the area, have been widely circulated on social media.

Saayoni Ghosh was among 19 TMC leaders who recently joined the Madan Mitra-led NCPI. The defection has sparked political controversy, especially in areas where the TMC has a stronghold.Police initially prevented the NCPI delegation from entering the area, but later allowed them to proceed amid tight security.

Despite the protests, Saayoni Ghosh said, "Everyone wants the maximum punishment. What matters is how quickly justice is delivered after an incident like this."

"This crime is deeply disturbing. It feels as if it happened to my own daughter. We have assured the family that we will stand by them in every way," Ghosh said, demanding the harshest punishment for the culprits.

Reflecting on her visit to the victim’s family, Ghosh said, “I met with the entire family. When someone loses their life, a child dies, we too feel the pain. We expect this from our Chief Minister: an investigation, a truthful investigation, a thorough investigation.”

Baruipur Rape, Murder Case

The body of a 12-year-old girl was found in a pond on the outskirts of Baruipur, South 24 Parganas district in West Bengal on Sunday. The girl had gone out on Saturday evening to purchase groceries but had not returned home since. The family has accused four men of kidnapping the minor.

Following the discovery of the body, locals have launched protests on the roads and at the Suryapur station. The incident occurred in Suryapur Haat in Dhapdhapi-2 Panchayat under Baruipur Police Station. 

People took to the streets, blocking roads and vandalising property as they pelted stones, set tyres ablaze and damaged police cars, demanding the speedy arrest of the culprits. On Monday, the prime accused was taken into custody, adding to two previous arrests in the case.
