The postmortem report of the 12-year-old girl, allegedly kidnapped, raped, and murdered in West Bengal’s Baruipur, has revealed multiple injuries, including marks on her private parts, bite and scratch marks across her body, a severe head injury and signs of drowning in the preliminary findings.

The body of a minor girl was found in a pond near Baruipur, in the South 24 Parganas district of Bengal on Sunday. The 12-year-old girl had left home on Saturday evening to buy food items but did not return. Family members allege that four men had forcibly taken her. 

What Did the Autopsy Reveal?

Preliminary autopsy report indications said the minor girl had suffered fatal injury to her head, as she was either hit with a blunt object or against any hard surface, bite marks and scratches on several parts of her body and injury marks over private parts, a senior police officer told PTI.

According to the report, the child was alive when she was thrown into the pond. Water was discovered in her lungs and stomach when examined. The girl was reportedly alive when thrown in the pond but later died due to excess bleeding from the head injury and drowning.

"The investigation is at a crucial stage. We are examining all evidence. The preliminary post-mortem findings are being corroborated with other material collected during the probe," PTI quoted the senior police officer.

Authorities are analysing local CCTV footage that purportedly captures four suspects taking the minor away to establish definitive identities and timelines. The primary accused was apprehended on Monday, adding to two prior arrests. 

"We are pursuing all available leads. CCTV footage, forensic evidence and witness statements are being examined. Those involved will be identified and arrested at the earliest," the officer said.

Tension Continues In Baruipur

The situation in Baruipur remained tense on Monday after protests broke out the previous day in connection with the alleged rape and murder case. Protesters blocked roads, pelted stones, burned tyres and vandalised police cars demanding the arrest of the accused at the earliest.

Earlier, locals disrupted traffic by blocking roads and railway tracks in protest of the matter. During the chaotic atmosphere, a young boy lost his life after being beaten by the locals.

Following the violence, police imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) in Baruipur and adjoining Narendrapur and Sonarpur police station areas. Heavy security has also been deployed.

TMC Leaders Meet Victims Family

A delegation of leaders from the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Monday met the family of the 12-year-old girl. The delegation included former Assembly Speaker and Baruipur Dakshin MLA Biman Banerjee, Rajya Sabha MP Dola Sen, and Joynagar MP Pratima Mondal. 

The leaders met the victim's father at his residence and later visited her mother and other family members at their ancestral home, assuring them of the party's legal and all possible support.

"We came here as representatives of Mamata Banerjee and met the victim's father at his Baruipur residence and her mother and other family members at their ancestral village house a little further away. We have assured them that Mamata Banerjee stands firmly with the family and will extend all assistance the family requires," Dola Sen told reporters after the visit.

TMC alleges Mamata Banerjee Was Stopped From Visiting Family

The TMC alleged that heavy police presence and barricades had been put up in front of Mamata Banerjee's house on Sunday night to prevent her from visiting the victim's family.

Baruipur Dakshin MLA Biman Banerjee criticised the police response, saying authorities should have acted swiftly to trace the accused. "Police should have been proactive in tracing the criminals. The locals had no choice but to resort to protests, and it was spontaneous," he said.

Mamata Banerjee, along with party leaders and residents of Baruipur, held a candlelight march condemning the incident.

BJP Reacts

Commenting on the incident, BJP MLA Ratna Debnath, mother of the RG Kar hospital rape-murder victim, said such crimes reflected systemic failures.

"It breaks my heart to learn that people can stoop so low and get rid of their sensibilities. I urge the government to tackle such crimes with an iron hand and believe that the police will conduct a proper inquiry in the case," she said.

Chief Minister Speaks to Victim's Father Over Phone

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari spoke to the victim's father over the phone and assured him of strict action against the culprits. He has called the victim's family to Bhavani Bhawan on Tuesday.
