Train Delay Refund Rules Update: Travelling by train can be unpredictable with delays, missed connections, and technical faults in charting disrupting journeys and often hitting passengers' wallets. However, only a few travellers know that even if they miss a train or can’t complete their trip, they are still eligible for a refund.

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) provides passengers with Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR), a facility designed to help passengers claim refunds under specific situations. Here is everything you need to know about the system.

What Is TDR?

The Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR) system helps passengers claim refunds for journeys that are disrupted due to railway or technical issues. It is designed to help travellers recover money when circumstances are beyond their control, such as train delays or missed connections, Jagran.com reported.

When You Claim A TDR?

- According to a Jagran.com report, if your train is delayed by over three hours, you can claim a refund via TDR.

- Additionally, if a train delay causes you to miss a connecting train, you are eligible for a refund.

- TDR can also be filed if the chart has not been prepared or if other valid railway-related issues disrupt your journey.

When filing a TDR, it is important to note that each reason has a specific time limit and submitting beyond that may lead to rejection of your TDR. For instance, filing a TDR for train delays must be done either before the train departs or within a specified time limit.
