Authorities have issued a notice urging tourists visiting Jammu and Kashmir to limit their activities to main tourist destinations and avoid trekking in the mountains or forested areas. This directive came in the wake of strengthening security measures after the Pahalgam terrorist attack on April 22, after which the administration has imposed a ban on trekking across the region.

The restrictions for trekking and hiking activities apply throughout Jammu and Kashmir and have been enforced in the wake of the terror attack at Baisaran, an administrative official confirmed, as reported by Jagran.com.

Security agencies have intensified combing operations in the upper regions and forested areas to search for and eliminate terrorist threats. Officials have emphasised that tourists and mountaineers should refrain from venturing into these areas and instead enjoy their visits at designated tourist sites.

Previously, along with the valley's famous tourist spots, there was a growing trend among tourists and adventure enthusiasts to trek in offbeat locations, mountains and forests. However, following security concerns, access to these areas has been restricted.

On April 22, terrorists attacked a group of tourists at Baisaran, approximately five kilometres from Pahalgam, resulting in the deaths of 26 tourists and injuries to 22 others. The incident led to a significant exodus of visitors from the valley.

Tourism activity is now gradually recovering, with tourists beginning to return to popular destinations such as Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Yusmarg, Doodhpathri and Pahalgam, despite its proximity to the site of the attack.
