THE BJP-IPFT alliance won 33 seats in the 60-member Tripura assembly, securing its return to power in the northeastern state for the second time in a row. According to the Election Commission website, the BJP bagged 32 seats while the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) got one.
“The BJP's victory was expected… We were eagerly waiting for it. Our responsibility has been increased with the decisive mandate,” outgoing Chief Minister Manik Saha, who won from Town Bardowali defeating his nearest Congress rival Ashish Kumar Saha by 1,257 votes, said.

Tripura recorded an 87.76 per cent of voter turnout of a total of 28.13 lakh electorates, as per the data published by the Election Commission. The CPI (M) and Congress have formed a pre-poll alliance to counter the BJP which made an alliance with the regional Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT).
This election witnessed a triangular contest between the Congress-CPM alliance to counter the BJP-IPFT alliance and the Trinamool Congress (TMC), which has also fielded candidates in several seats. The Tipra Motha, an alliance of regional organisations can become the Kingmaker for these Assembly elections.
