Bengaluru News: Uber is actively engaged in a conversation with the Karnataka government to secure required regulatory approval for the introduction of its shuttle bus services in Bengaluru. The company plans to start its services in the silicon city following receiving a positive response from Kolkata and Delhi. However, Uber is still waiting to get a nod from the Congress government to operate nearly 200 air-conditioned buses along the city's tech corridor.
The company is aiming to start its operation along the Outer Ring Road to reduce the congestion by offering commuters an alternative to private vehicles. The company informed that the buses will operate at 2-3 minute intervals. It added that the passengers will be able to pre-book seats, get picked up from designated locations, and they will be dropped at their respective destinations.

Abhishek Padhye, Head of Regional Business Operations, Uber India and South Asia, said that he was confident that the government will soon give the permission to operate in the high-tech city on the basis of previous successes. “The shuttle bus service is doing well in Kolkata and Delhi. We are confident we will receive approval to operate in Bengaluru soon and thereby help address the congestion in the city,” Padhye was quoted as saying by the New Indian Express.
However, he acknowledged that Bengaluru has its own challenges, and the traffic congestion is much more complicated than in Delhi and Kolkata. He added that most of the tech giants are located along ORR, and the shuttle services could help in easing the traffic congestion issue.

“Bengaluru’s congestion issue is a more serious problem than that of Delhi and Kolkata. Among the routes that have a maximum on-boarding and off-boarding together, tech parks are a natural fit for this service. Bengaluru and Hyderabad are cities which have massive tech parks when compared to others,” he added.
Earlier last month, Uber explained the model to IT BT Minister Priyank Kharge and is waiting for the government's approval to begin the operation.
