Four teenagers were killed while six others sustained injuries after two cars collided on the Old Ahmedabad Highway in Rajasthan on Saturday. The incident which occurred near Nela Talab in the Savina area at the popular Rajasthan city at around 3 am in the morning, involved two cars, one of which had six occupants.
The six people in one car were a group of friends who had celebrated their friend’s birthday and attended the ‘Mehfil-e-Milad’ programme. The group had planned to have tea in a nearby place.
A video, which is going viral on social media, was recorded by one of the friends from inside the car shows the driver holding a cigarette while loud music played at high volume. The footage captures the driver pressing the accelerator hard, pushing the car's speed beyond 120 kmph. He then attempts a U-turn, even though another vehicle is clearly approaching from the opposite direction.
Moments later, the car crashes, with the loud sound of shattering glass clearly heard in the recording.
The victims have been identified as Mohammad Ayan (17), Adil Qureshi (14), Sher Mohammad (19) and Ghulam Khwaja (17), PTI quoted Savina station house officer Ajayraj Singh as saying.
According to sources quoted by India Today, the occupants of the crashed car desperately called for help for nearly ten minutes following the collision. By the time rescuers and locals reached the accident site, four of the six friends inside had already died, while the other two suffered serious injuries.
The second vehicle involved in the head-on crash carried a Gujarat registration number and was travelling from Rajgarh in Rajasthan’s Churu district to Vapi in Gujarat, police said.
Four passengers in the Gujarat-registered car also sustained injuries in the violent impact, a senior officer told PTI. The bodies of the four deceased have been shifted to the mortuary of MB Hospital for post-mortem examination. Both vehicles have been seized by the police for further investigation.
