In a shocking case from Rajasthan, a couple struggling to have children allegedly kidnapped a four-year-old boy from Jaipur railway station last week. Their plan was to raise the child as their own, but police tracked them down and rescued the boy within 48 hours.

The accused, Sundar Kashyap and Jeevika, both 28 years old, abducted the child, Shivam, while he was waiting at the station with his mother, Priyanka. CCTV footage from the railway station helped police identify and locate the suspects, NDTV reported.

On 14 March, Priyanka and her three children were at Jaipur railway station, preparing to travel to her parents' home in Siwan, Bihar. During this time, Jeevika lured Shivam away. The couple then boarded a bus from Narayan Singh Circle to Uttar Pradesh.

After searching throughout the night, Shivam’s parents, who are daily-wage workers, filed a missing child report with the Government Railway Police (GRP) the next day.

Police Track Down the Accused

"All events were captured on CCTV, which played a key role in finding the suspects," said SHO Arun Chaudhary of the GRP.

Following a thorough investigation, police arrested the couple from Mahuwa in Rajasthan’s Dausa district on 16 March. The child was found safe and returned to his parents.

Couple Had Been Planning the Kidnapping for Months

According to Ajmer GRP DSP Narender Singh, Jeevika, a mother of two, had been living with Kashyap, a daily-wage labourer, after separating from her husband. Due to a sterilisation procedure, she was unable to conceive more children.

"The couple tried various medical treatments to have a baby but failed. That’s when they decided to kidnap a child," Singh explained, as reported by The Times of India.

The investigation also revealed that the couple had been planning this crime for nearly eight months. They frequently visited the railway station to observe families with young children before carrying out their plan.

Before heading to the train station, they packed clothes, snacks, and milk in a bag. After abducting Shivam, they took a bus to Mahuwa, intending to raise him as their son. They had even chosen a name for him, Ashish.

"Jeevika insisted that the child call her 'mummy,'" the police added.

The couple was arrested under BNS Section 137(2) for kidnapping. With swift police action, the young boy was safely reunited with his family, bringing relief to his distraught parents.
