Unnao Rape Case: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday approached the Supreme Court, challenging the Delhi High Court's decision to suspend the sentence of former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the Unnao rape case. Sengar, convicted for raping a minor, had his sentence temporarily halted by the High Court.

Reacting to the development, Mehmood Pracha, advocate for Unnao rape case survivor, said they are planning to move to the top court as they don't have confidence in the CBI.

Will File FIR Against CBI Officials For Helping Sengar: Survior's Advocate

"We received reports that CBI will also appeal against the High Court's order. But we do not have any confidence that the CBI will fight this case diligently in the Supreme Court. We are also making preparations to go to the Supreme Court with a strong case. But CBI is the main party. Tomorrow, we will try to file an FIR with the CBI against the officials who helped Kuldeep Singh Sengar. CBI should expose their conspiracy and take action against them. A similar thing happened with the victim of the Hathras incident. After this judgment, no female children of the country are safe. If Sengar is worthy of mercy,  then all rapists are now worthy of mercy. That's why people of this country should come on the roads, otherwise no one will get justice..."

Will Not Be Scared, Have Faith In Supreme Court: Rape Survivor

Earlier in the day, the rape survivor said she will not be intimidated by the suspension of the life sentence of convict and asserted that she has "blind faith" in the Supreme Court, which she will approach for justice.

The survivor said she had gone to the protest outside the High Court to publicly question the message being sent to women of the country. Asserting her right to raise questions as a citizen, she said, "It is my right and the right of the public to ask these questions. Not every judge is like this."

The survivor said the bail order had endangered her family's safety and livelihood. "This order has caged me and many women like me. It poses a threat to my family. My husband has also lost his job. What are we supposed to do?" she said.

Expressing faith in the apex court, the survivor said she would challenge the order before it. "We will approach the Supreme Court, and I have blind faith in it. The Supreme Court has given me justice before, and I am confident it will do so again," she said.

Delhi High Court Order Triggers Outrage

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday ordered the release of Sengar, who is serving a life term in the case, on bail pending the disposal of his appeal against his conviction by a trial court in December 2019. In its order, the court directed that the former BJP MLA shall not come within a five-kilometre radius of the victim's residence or threaten the rape survivor or her mother, and said any violation of the conditions would automatically lead to the cancellation of his bail.
