In a disturbing incident, a 48-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur had slit his 11-year-old twin daughters' throats with a sharp weapon in the early hours of Sunday. The accused has been identified as Shashi Ranjan Mishra and is a medical representative by profession. After killing his daughters, he called the police and surrendered to the team.

The man is a resident of Bihar and lives with his wife, Reshma, along with his two daughters-- Riddhi and Siddhi. He also has a six-year-old son.

According to the police, he suspected his wife had an affair and often used to tell her that she should stay with their son, while he would take care of the daughters.

The accused's wife, Reshma, said that Shashi was suffering from depression. He installed multiple CCTV cameras inside their home. She also claimed that Shashi would not even let her enter their daughters' rooms.

What Happened On That Day

The incident occurred on Saturday; Shashi was having dinner with his family. Reshma said that around 2:30 AM, he had taken one of the daughters to the washroom, following which they returned to the room, and lights were switched off.

Nearly two hours later, he called the police at their emergency response service number and reported that he had killed them.

The police arrived at the flat and discovered the bodies of the daughters covered with blood. Shashi was present at the site.

Reshma, who is from West Bengal, met Shashi while working at a beauty parlour in Kanpur. They got married in 2014.

"The father has been arrested, and the case is being thoroughly investigated," NDTV quoted Deputy Commissioner of Police Deependra Nath Chaudhary as saying. "The bodies have been sent for postmortem," he said.

Separate Incident

In a separate incident, a 25-year-old tennis star was shot by her father, Deepak, in Gurugram. Reports suggest the father was unable to handle his daughter's success and societal pressure.

In another case in Andhra Pradesh, a 22-year-old named Choudeswari was murdered by her father for marrying against his wishes, according to a The Hindu report.
