- 20 snakebite cases reported in Hathras in one night

Jagran Correspondent, Hathras: Amid the continuous rainfall in Uttar Pradesh, the instances of snakebite have significantly increased in Hathras district. Earlier on Wednesday, 20 people were bitten by snakes in the different regions of the district, leading to panic among the residents. The patients were rushed to the nearby hospitals, and those with serious threats were later referred to the district headquarter hospitals. The residents have been advised to stay careful and limit their outings during the night hours.
Snakes Entering Residential Areas
The doctors, while providing details, stated that snakes are coming out of their holes and entering residential areas and fields due to the continuous rainfall. The cases of snakebite have increased significantly due to their exposure to the residential areas. They further stated that anti-venom treatment was given to the patients, adding that most of them are out of danger.
In its latest advisory, the health department has urged the residents to stay extra cautious during the night hours. It further advised them to spray insecticide in the house, use mosquito nets while sleeping, and carry a flashlight when going out in the dark. The department also asserted that the patients should seek medical advice immediately rather than consulting any traditional practitioners.
Three Deaths Reported
The reports suggest that at least three people have died in the past five days due to the snakebites, while several patients are undergoing treatment at the district hospital. The continuous rainfall has caused waterlogging in the lower regions, driving snakes into the populated regions. The hike in such cases has sent a shockwave among the villagers, reported Jagran.
The health department has directed all CHCs and PHCs to ensure that anti-snake venom is available at all the healthcare centres. As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), several districts of Uttar Pradesh are likely to witness more rain in the coming days.
