Heavy rainfall has wreaked havoc in Uttar Pradesh as monsoon activity has reached its peak. As per the anticipation by the weather department, very heavy rainfall is expected in Ayodhya, Jaunpur and several other districts. The weather department has issued a lightning alert in several districts, including Fatehpur, Prayagraj and Pratapgarh. 

Uttar Pradesh Weather Today: Extremely Heavy Rainfall In Multiple Districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast predicting heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in several districts across the state on Sunday. These districts are expected to be the most affected by the monsoon, with significant rainfall likely to occur. The areas under alert include Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Balrampur, Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Basti, Siddharth Nagar, and surrounding regions, where torrential rains are expected.

In addition to these districts, the IMD has also predicted heavy rainfall in other areas, including Amethi, Sultanpur, Pratapgarh, Ghazipur, Jaunpur, Deoria, Gonda, Shravasti, Azamgarh, Mau, Ballia, Hardoi, Farrukhabad, Kasganj, Etah, Barabanki, Bahraich, Saharanpur, Mathura, Hathras, Agra, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Ayodhya, Ambedkar Nagar, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Rampur, Bareilly, Bijnor, Moradabad, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, and surrounding areas. The IMD has advised residents in these regions to exercise caution and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during this period.

IMD Issues Lightning-Thunderstorm Warning In Over 40 Districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for thunderstorms and lightning in over 40 districts across the region, emphasising the need for residents to exercise extreme caution. The districts under alert include Sonbhadra, Sant Ravidas Nagar, Ballia, Deoria, Lucknow, Barabanki, Ambedkar Nagar, Kanpur Nagar, Unnao, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Raebareli, Amethi, Rampur, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Sitapur, Hardoi, Farrukhabad, Saharanpur, Shamli, Mainpuri, Etawah, Auraiya, Ayodhya, Muzaffarnagar, Balrampur, Shravasti, Amroha, Moradabad, Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Firozabad, Bijnor, Ghazipur, Azamgarh, Mau, Siddharth Nagar, Gonda, Maharajganj, Kannauj, Kanpur Dehat, Shahjahanpur, Sambhal, Sultanpur, Mathura, Pratapgarh, Varanasi, Kushinagar, Hathras, Jaunpur, Basti, Etah, Agra, Badaun, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Banda, Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Prayagraj, Fatehpur, Kasganj, and surrounding areas.

Flood-Like Situation In Varanasi, Prayagraj Other Districts

The flood situation in several parts of Uttar Pradesh has taken a turn for the worse, with the Ganga and Yamuna rivers flowing above the danger mark. In Prayagraj and Varanasi, thousands of people have been forced to leave their homes as water has inundated their residences. The water level in the rivers continues to rise, exacerbating the situation.

In Prayagraj, the Yamuna river's water level crossed the 85-meter mark at Naini by 4 pm on Saturday, surpassing the danger mark of 84.73 meters. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has constituted a 'Team-11' to oversee flood relief efforts, deploying 11 cabinet ministers to 12 flood-affected districts in the state.
