In a shocking twist to the Meerut murder case of former Merchant Navy officer Saurabh Rajput, investigators revealed that his wife, Muskaan Rastogi, tampered with his prescription to purchase sleeping pills. She allegedly drugged him before killing and dismembering his body, according to NDTV reports. This gruesome crime occurred earlier this month in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut.
Sleeping Pills Purchased Using Tampered Prescription
According to officials, Muskaan obtained the sleeping pills from Usha Medical Store, which was raided on Sunday as part of the ongoing investigation. Meerut drug inspector Piyush Sharma confirmed the discovery, stating, "We found that she bought the medicines from this store. We are thoroughly checking the sale records to determine whether the drugs required a valid prescription or were sold over the counter."
Authorities are now examining sales records from the past two years for any legal violations. "If any irregularities are found, legal action will be taken, including the possible cancellation of the store's licence. Medications like sleeping pills must be sold strictly with a doctor's prescription," Sharma added.
Amit Joshi, the owner of Usha Medical Store, claimed that the pills were sold only after Muskaan presented a prescription on her mobile phone. "We do not sell such medications without a valid prescription," he asserted.
Grisly Details of the Murder
On March 4, Muskaan and her lover, Sahil Shukla, allegedly drugged and fatally stabbed Saurabh Rajput. They then dismembered his body and sealed the remains inside a drum filled with cement. According to the police, the couple went on a vacation to Himachal Pradesh after the murder while deceiving Saurabh's family by sending them messages from his phone.
The crime was uncovered on March 18 when Muskaan confessed to her mother, who immediately reported the incident to the authorities. Both Muskaan and Sahil were arrested shortly afterward.
A post-mortem examination revealed the horrific extent of the attack. Doctors confirmed that Saurabh was stabbed three times in the heart with extreme force. His head was severed from his body, his wrists were cut off, and his legs were bent backward—a sign that the perpetrators attempted to fit the body into the drum. The official cause of death was determined to be shock and excessive blood loss.
A Troubled Relationship
Saurabh and Muskaan married in 2016 despite opposition from his family and shared a six-year-old daughter. Police reports indicate that Muskaan and Sahil had known each other since school and reconnected in 2019 through a WhatsApp group.
Disturbingly, Saurabh's mother, Renu Devi, revealed that their young daughter had been telling neighbours, "Papa is in the drum," suggesting she may have witnessed part of the crime.

Muskaan Requests a Government Lawyer
Following her arrest, Muskaan has requested a government-appointed lawyer, claiming her family has disowned her. Senior Jail Superintendent Viresh Raj Sharma confirmed the request, stating, "She said her family is angry and will not support her, so we will forward her application to the court to arrange legal representation." However, Sahil has not yet requested a government lawyer.
The official also mentioned that the accused couple wanted to stay together in prison but were informed that such an arrangement was not possible.
As investigations continue, authorities remain focused on gathering evidence and ensuring justice is served in this chilling case that has shocked the region.
