After a relentless rescue operation, the body of the last missing BRO worker, following an avalanche at Mana Pass in Uttarakhand, was recovered on the evening of March 2, taking the death toll to eight. The search and rescue operation has ended, with rescue teams recovering the last remaining body.

Following the rescue operation, the Indian Army expressed sorrow and conveyed heartfelt condolences to the families of the workers who lost their lives in the unfortunate natural disaster.

Updating the situation, Lt. Col. Manish Shrivastava, PRO (Defence) Dehradun, said that a professional rescue operation saved many precious lives.

“Many lives were saved by the relentless and professional rescue operations mounted by the joint efforts of the Indian Army, Indian Airforce, ITBP, NDRF, Border Roads and the state government. Indian Army lauds the efforts of all soldiers and personnel who braved inclement weather and terrain to carry out this rescue operation,” Lt. Col Shrivastava added

Six helicopters were deployed for a recent operation, comprising three from the Indian Army Aviation Corps, two from the Indian Air Force, and one civil chopper hired by the Army, according to Lieutenant Colonel Manish Shrivastava, the Army's Public Relations Officer.

The avalanche hit the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) camp between Mana and Badrinath early Friday, burying workers inside eight containers and a shed.

Mana is the last village on the India-Tibet border at a height of 3,200 metres. It is located three kilometres from Badrinath.
