Chamoli Landslide: As the monsoon enters Northern India, Uttarakhand's Chamoli district finds itself in trouble as the region has been disrupted by a landslide that has blocked the Badrinath National Highway. The highway remains closed for the third day. The vehicular movement on the road was halted due to the falling of heavy debris from the hill on the road in Bhanerpani, Joshimath, news agency ANI reported citing officials. The authorities also conducted blasting to remove the big boulders on the highway.
The Uttarakhand Police on Tuesday shared the video of the landslide on X, formerly Twitter and said, "The road has been blocked due to landslide from the hill near Patalganga Langsi Tunnel on Badrinath National Highway." Chamoli Police also gave an update about the road status and said it is still blocked.
On Tuesday morning, debris had reached near the Forest Department post in Joshimath on Badrinath Highway. While clearing the debris, a heavy rock fell on the highway near Joshimath, due to which a large part of the highway was damaged. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and NH machines are working continuously to remove the rock.
The landslide in Chamoli left countless people and vehicles stranded on either side of the affected road. The authorities are effortlessly working to remove the debris. The landslides in other parts of Uttarakhand also affected normal lives.

According to the district's disaster emergency operation centre, landslides caused by heavy rain had earlier shut 21 roads in Pithoragarh. Landslides in Pagal Nala near Lambagad in Chamoli and Dabarkot in Uttarkashi, respectively, shut the Badrinath and Yamunotri highways.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had also issued a red alert for heavy to hefty rainfall in some areas, and all schools and Anganwadi centres were to be closed on Thursday. Earlier on July 5, debris at two locations in Chamoli halted traffic movement on the Badrinath National Highway in Chamoli. he Badrinath National Highway was closed, according to Chamoli Police, because of debris in the Kotwali Chamoli area, close to Angthala. The incident reported at 6:54 am.
