In a major development in the Mumbai BMW hit-and-run case, the accused, Mihir Shah admitted that he was behind the wheel during the accident that claimed the life of a 45-year-old, news agency PTI reported citing an official probing the case. The official said the 24-year-old accused kept driving recklessly despite knowing that the woman was stuck in one of the tyres of his high-end BMW car. He said many onlookers and passersby signalled and shouted but the accused did not stop.

To evade arrest, Shah reportedly shaved his beard and trimmed his hair after the incident.

After being at large for over three days, Mihir Shah was arrested from Virar on Tuesday. He will be in police custody till July 16. The officials said over 14 persons, including the accused’s mother, sister and friends, have been questioned in the case. The police are likely to visit the incident site and recreate the entire scene.

BMC Demolishes Bar Where Accused Was Served Liquor:

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday demolished the ‘illegal’ portion of Juhu bar, where Worli hit and run case accused went before the accident on July 7. The action was taken under relevant provisions of the Bombay Foreign Liquor Rules, 1953.

The bar was sealed by the Mumbai police on Tuesday after conducting searches. Mihir Shah, the prime accused in the case, was served liquor in the Vice Global Tapas Bar. The license of the bar was cancelled for serving hard liquor to Shah as he had not completed 25 years. The excise department also found several other irregularities in the bar.

Accused’s Father Removed From Party Post:

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Wednesday removed Rajesh Shah, father of accused Mihir Shah, from the deputy leader post in Shiv Sena. This came after Rajesh was arrested and subsequently released on bail.
