Around 10,000 people stranded along different parts of the Kedarnath yatra route have been safely rescued while relief efforts were ongoing on war footing, a senior official of Uttarakhand disaster management authority said on Saturday. This comes after massive landslides, triggered by cloudbursts at several places on Kedarnath route left at least 14 dead and thousands stranded.

Uttarakhand Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman said that a total of 7,234 passengers were rescued by August 2. On August 3, an additional 1,865 passengers were rescued and taken to safe locations, bringing the total to 9,099 passengers rescued by August 3.

Here are the latest updates

1. The senior disaster management official said that on August 3, 43 passengers were airlifted from Kedarnath. Additionally, 495 passengers were airlifted from Linchauli and Bhimbali. Meanwhile, 90 passengers safely walked from Bhimbali-Linchauli to Chaumasi-Kalimath.

2. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is directly overseeing the rescue operation. Efforts are underway on a large scale to ensure the safe evacuation of passengers.

3. NDRF, SDRF, and the Air Force's Chinook and MI-17 helicopters have been mobilized for relief and rescue operations. He mentioned that 83 NDRF members, 168 personnel from SDRF, DDRF, and PRD, 126 individuals from the Police Department, and 35 Fire Department personnel are stationed at various locations

4. According to the officials, at least 15 people have died due to the landslides triggered by heavy rainfall on the Kedarnath Yatra route.

5. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the safety of the passengers is the top priority of the government.

"The teams of the district administration have made adequate arrangements for the stay and food of the passengers who are still stranded. Their needs are being taken care of. The entire rescue operation is being continuously monitored from the State Emergency Operations Center. A massive operation is being carried out to evacuate the passengers safely. Due to the weather, some difficulties are being faced in the rescue operation, as the weather is getting clearer, passengers are being rescued," CM Dhami said.
