A road accident occurred in the Tehri district of Uttarakhand, leaving 5 dead, with a woman being rescued. The accident on the Badrinath Highway near Devprayag has claimed the lives of family members from Faridabad, Haryana.
The family was traveling to Gauchar in Chamoli district to attend a wedding ceremony when their vehicle, a Mahindra Thar, fell into a river near Bagwan, approximately 15 km from Devprayag towards Srinagar.
After a swift rescue operation, the vehicle was retrieved with the help of a crane. Five bodies were recovered, while a woman was rescued and is currently receiving medical attention.
Preliminary investigations suggest that high speed might be the reason behind the devastating occurrence. Six people, including two women and four men, boarded the vehicle. Woman, identified as Anita Negi, was rescued and rushed to the Srinagar Base Hospital for medical attention. However, the bodies of five others, including three children, were recovered from the river. Survivor’s son, sister, brother-in-law in-law and two other kids were killed in the horrific accident.
According to report by Jagran.com, the family left from Anita's residence in Roorke at around 3 am to attend a wedding ceremony. Anita's husband is serving in the army, and their younger daughter remained behind in Roorkee.
Although a preliminary investigation suggests that high speed might have contributed to the accident, the exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined.
The injured woman, Anita Negi, remains in shock and is unable to speak, according to the report. The report added that relatives of the victims have begun arriving at the accident site. The other two kids who lost their lives were Meenu’s (Anita’s sister). One of them was in class 12th and the other in class 8th.
