Uttarakhand Weather: Uttarakhand is grappling with severe weather conditions as continuous heavy rainfall wreaks havoc across the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for nine districts including Dehradun, Nainital, and Tehri Garhwal for June 30. In light of the worsening conditions, the state government has announced the closure of all government and private schools, as well as anganwadis, on Monday. The ongoing Chardham Yatra, which was temporarily suspended on Sunday due to adverse weather, has now resumed with strict advisories in place. Several districts are also under yellow and orange alerts, and residents have been urged to exercise caution.

In Uttarkashi, a landslide had blocked the crucial Gangotri National Highway, but the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has since managed to restore access near Netala, Naluna, and Laldhang. Similarly, in Chamoli, traffic between Gauchar and Badrinath Dham has resumed after a temporary closure near Gauchar and Karnaprayag. However, in Pithoragarh, a massive landslide at Ghat Band has shut down the Pithoragarh-Ghat Highway, stranding numerous vehicles on both sides.
Authorities in Haridwar have conducted a mock drill to test disaster preparedness amid fears of a potential surge in the Ganga’s water level. Relief centres have been set up at Bhalla Inter College, while staging areas at Rishikul ground have been readied for any emergency evacuations. Meanwhile, to prevent flooding, water from the rapidly rising Ganga is being diverted via the Bhimgoda area.
