After being denied a ticket by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from his constituency Pilibhit, Varun Gandhi on Thursday held an election campaign for his mother, Maneka Gandhi, the saffron party's candidate from Sultanpur constituency that will go to polls in the sixth phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha Election 2024 on May 25.
“There is only one constituency in the country where its people do not call its MP as 'Sansad' but as 'Maa'...I am here not just to gather support for my mother but the mother of Sultanpur,” Varun Gandhi was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

Varun Gandhi, who joined the election campaign for mother Maneka said that Sultanpur's name is taken in the first category in the country. The Sultanpur Lok Sabha constituency holds immense significance as BJP leader Maneka Gandhi is contesting against her Samajwadi Party rival Ram Bhual Nishad and BSP nominee Udraj Verma, who threatens to split the OBC votes of the Akhilesh Yadav-led SP.

Maneka Gandhi has been contesting from the Sultanpur Lok Sabha constituency for the second consecutive time. Earlier, she had won the seat by a margin of around 14,000 votes. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also campaigned for her.
The Sultanpur Lok Sabha constituency has seen several MPs from a variety of parties, and no single party has dominated the seat. The Congress won eight times in Sultanpur, the BSP won twice, and the BJP won four times.
Meanwhile, the country is gearing up for Phase 6 voting of the Lok Sabha Election 2024 which will be held in 58 constituencies across eight states and union territories on Saturday, May 25. The voting will begin at 7 am and end at 6 pm. The results will be declared on June 4.
