Karur Stampede: The identities of all the 39 people who were killed in the brutal stampede at a political rally of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam have been established. At least 10 of the 39 people who died in the stampede at actor-turned-politician Vijay's rally in Karur yesterday were minors. A significant number of victims who had died reportedly belonged to the age group of 20s and 30s.

Harrowing visuals of a father carrying his child in his arms and pleading for urgent medical attention have gone viral on social media. The TVK leader, Vijay, has announced an ex gratia of Rs 20 lakh for the families of each of the 4people killed in the stampede.

"I am at a loss for words to express the pain my heart endures. My eyes and mind are clouded with sorrow. The faces of all of you whom I have met keep flashing through my mind. The more I think of my loved ones who show affection and care, the more my heart slips further from its place," he wrote on his social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
