Vijay Rupani Death: Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani died on Thursday afternoon when an Air India plane carrying him and 241 others crashed near Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, according to Union Minister of Jal Shakti and Gujarat BJP President CR Paatil.

Former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh expressed his condolences to his tragic demise and said, "Saddened by the tragic demise of former Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Vijay Rupani Ji in the unfortunate plane crash near Ahmedabad. His unwavering commitment to public service will always be remembered. My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones in this moment of grief."

Karnataka Congress MLC B K Hariprasad said, "One of the victims is Vijay Rupani...He was one of the most decent dignified gentlemen. The loss is not only for Gujarat but for the entire country, the country has lost a very decent and dignified gentleman in this accident."

Taking to his X handle, BJP MP Sambit Patra expressed his deep condolences to the tragic demise of the former Gujarat CM and said, "The news of the tragic demise of former Chief Minister of Gujarat and senior member of the BJP family, Vijay Rupani ji, in the unfortunate plane crash in Ahmedabad is extremely painful and heart-wrenching. His departure is an irreparable loss not only for Gujarat but for the entire Indian politics."

BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad said, "... It is a moment of grief. Our former CM was also on board. We are grieved and offer our condolences to those who lost their lives..."

On demise of former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani, Punjab BJP vice president Fatehjung Singh Bajwa said, "This is very unfortunate because 3-4 days back, we were working together for Ludhiana West by-elections. I had to leave for Chandigarh and Rupani ji told me that he has a flight to Ahmedabad as he has to go to London in a few days to meet his daughter...We reached Chandigarh while discussing Ludhiana and Punjab. I didn't know that this was my last meeting with Rupani ji. A very humble person, a very humble leader. He was very dedicated to the party..."

The flight, operated by a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, took off at 1.47 PM, slightly later than scheduled, and landed only 9 minutes after being cleared for takeoff. Visuals of the tragedy, which are being extensively shared on social media, show the plane crashing and exploding into flames behind a cluster of concrete buildings in Ahmedabad.
