Waqf Row: Amid ongoing protests against the Waqf Amendment Act, Muslim organisations across the country have intensified their efforts to register Waqf properties. In a nationwide push, helpline desks are being set up at national, provincial, and local levels to facilitate the registration process.

The aim is to ensure that more than 1.5 lakh Waqf properties are registered on the central portal “Umeed” within the next six weeks, Jagran.com reported. However, despite these efforts, Muslim organisations remain sceptical about completing the registration process within the six-week targeted timeframe. According to reports, only a few thousand Waqf properties have registered so far.

SC To Hear Plea On October 28

In response to growing concerns, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) moved to the Supreme Court, seeking relief. AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi has also filed a petition requesting an extension of the deadline for the mandatory registration of all Waqf properties, including those classified as waqf-by-user, on the UMEED portal, news agency PTI reported.

The Supreme Court has scheduled the hearing on the matter for October 28. As per the provisions, it is mandatory to register all Waqf properties across the country on the Ministry of Minority Affairs' UMEED portal by December 5.

Earlier this month, the Supreme Court upheld the mandatory Waqf property registration process, prompting All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, and Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind to step up efforts to support registrations.

Help Desks Being Set Up Nationwide To Support Waqf Property Registration

Help desks with IT, legal, and revenue experts are being set up nationwide to assist registration of Waqf properties. One such desk was recently inaugurated at the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind headquarters in South Delhi by its president, Syed Saadatullah Hussaini.

He noted that despite such efforts, the registration process still faces significant challenges, highlighting the need for more such centres. Hussaini also clarified that registration of properties does not mean the end of protests against the Waqf Amendment Act.

The AIMPLB has announced a massive rally at Ramlila Maidan on November 16 and is organising state-level protests.
