Weather News: Several parts of India received intense rainfall on Wednesday, disrupting normal life in cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Pune and Bengaluru. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the rainfall was accompanied by strong winds and in some areas, hailstorms.

Delhi NCR Weather

Delhi NCR witnessed particularly severe weather, with wind speeds reaching up to 79 km/h. The storm caused damage in several areas, including uprooted trees and fallen electric poles. Hail was also reported in parts of the region. The IMD has issued a fresh alert for heavy rain in Delhi for Thursday as well.

According to the IMD, this unexpected spell of pre-monsoon rain is due to changing weather conditions and may be an indicator of an active monsoon season ahead. The department also issued an update regarding the progress of the southwest monsoon.

Kerala Weather Forecast

In a press release issued on Thursday, the IMD said that conditions are becoming favourable for the onset of the monsoon in Kerala within the next 2–3 days. It added that the southwest monsoon is also likely to advance into additional parts of the South Arabian Sea, North Bay of Bengal and northeastern states during the same period.

Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat Weather Forecast

The IMD’s extended forecast suggests that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over several parts of the country in the coming days. From May 22 to 28, regions including Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada are expected to experience thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds with speeds of 40–50 km/h. Gujarat may also see similar conditions from May 25 to 28.

Uttarakhand, Himachal, UP, Rajasthan Weather

Thunderstorms, lightning and high wind speeds are expected in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh over the next one to two days. Additionally, strong winds are forecast in western Rajasthan, eastern Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh on May 25 and 26.

MP, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana Weather Forecast

In the past 24 hours, multiple states, including Delhi NCR, recorded heavy rainfall and high wind speeds. Wind speeds between 60 and 100 km/h were reported in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and West Madhya Pradesh. Hailstorms occurred in parts of Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi. Heavy rainfall was also recorded in West Bengal, Bihar, East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Assam, Tripura and Odisha.

Looking ahead, the IMD forecasts a drop in maximum temperatures by 2–4 degrees Celsius in northwest India over the next 24 hours, followed by a slight rise. Central India is also expected to see a temperature dip over the next four days before temperatures increase slightly. No significant temperature change is expected in other parts of the country.
