After days of intense heat, a strong shift in weather is expected as pre-monsoon activity brings thunderstorms, heavy rain, and hailstorms to large parts of India.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has alerted states for thunderstorms, heavy rain and hailstorms on June 1, 2026, in 19 states and suggested appropriate action with a warning on wind speed up to 90 kmph in some areas.

States Under Heavy Rain and Hailstorm Alert:

-Northern and Central India: Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan.

-Eastern and North-Eastern India: Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, Tripura, Nagaland.

-Hilly regions: Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir.

-South and Other states: Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh.

Relief From Searing Temperatures

The approaching system will significantly reduce the recently scorching temperatures in North-West, Central and Eastern India. The IMD has projected a drop in both day and night temperatures as storms will be widespread.

Weather conditions in Uttar Pradesh cities-Lucknow, Kanpur, Prayagraj, and Varanasi-will substantially improve post rain, even as Delhi is likely to experience thunderstorms, rain and winds of 40-50 kmph. In contrast, heavy rain and 80-85 kmph strong winds are forecast for Bihar and Jharkhand.
