Weather Update: Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh are experiencing severe cold, with cold wave conditions persisting in some parts. Hilly states, especially the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, recently received heavy snowfall, intensifying the cold across northern India. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), temperatures have dropped to zero degrees Celsius or below in many places.
Heavy Rain Alert In South India
Cyclone Ditwah’s impact is limited to South India, where a heavy rainfall alert has been issued. Ditwah is unlikely to directly impact northern states. It is expected to move roughly northward, parallel to the north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts, and weaken further by Wednesday morning. Karaikal and Chennai are being monitored by Doppler weather radar. Rain activity may occur in Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur, Chennai, Chengalpattu, and Ranipet districts.
Kedarnath Temperature Dips To -14 Degrees Celsius
Fresh snowfall was recorded in areas such as Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonamarg (Kashmir), Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Manali, Shimla, Kufri (Himachal Pradesh), and Auli, Kedarnath Valley, and Chopta (Uttarakhand). Temperatures in high-altitude areas dropped to -10 degrees Celsius, causing rivers and streams to freeze. Kedarnath recorded a temperature of -14 degrees Celsius.
IMD has forecast light to moderate rain and snowfall in the western Himalayan region for the next few days. Himachal Pradesh is likely to experience another spell of rain and snowfall around December 4-5. Heavy snowfall has disrupted traffic on some major highways and local roads, especially in the Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur valleys.
Rajasthan Weather
On Saturday, temperatures dropped below 10 degrees Celsius in 12 cities in Madhya Pradesh, including Jabalpur and Gwalior. Morning fog enveloped several districts, including Indore, Bhopal, and Ujjain. Despite light rain over the past two days, the cold has intensified in Rajasthan. Minimum temperatures are expected to drop to two degrees in the Shekhawati and Bikaner divisions.
