Weather Today: Temperatures continue to dip across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning that the cold spell will intensify on Thursday. Light fog is likely in the morning and evening. In Delhi, the mercury slipped to 8 degrees Celsius on Wednesday morning.

North India Weather

On Thursday, night and evening is expected to be extremely cold in Delhi, including Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, Faridabad, and Greater Noida. Snowfall in the mountains is causing temperatures to drop rapidly in Punjab and Haryana.

Rohtang Road Closed Amid Snowfall

Continuous snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh is further increasing the cold in the plains. The Rohtang Pass has been closed due to the snowfall. The IMD has forecast the maximum temperature during the day to be around 24 to 26 degrees Celsius.

Srinagar Records Temperature Of -3.9 Degrees Celsius

A severe cold wave intensified in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, pushing temperatures to new lows. Srinagar city recorded a temperature of -3.9 degrees Celsius, the coldest night of the season so far.

Chillai Kalan About To Begin

So far this season, light to moderate snowfall has occurred several times in the higher elevations of the valley, including Gulmarg. However, the lower reaches of the valley, including Srinagar, have not yet seen any snowfall. The 40-day Chillai Kalan, the coldest and harshest period of winter, will begin in the valley on December 21.
