Weather Update: As the Southwest monsoon continues to pour across the Indian subcontinent, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a series of weather alerts for various regions. Additionally, red alert is issued for Gujarat and Maharashtra, warning of the possibility of "very heavy rainfall". Meanwhile, an orange alert predicting "heavy downpours" has been issued for Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Odisha and Goa.

The heavy rain has claimed several lives, with eight people reported dead in Gujarat on July 24. The death toll due to the rain has now risen to 61, according to according to officials. National and state disaster response teams have been deployed to assist in the affected areas.

'Extremely Heavy Rain' In Gujarat And Maharashtra

The weather agency has forecast the possibility of "extremely heavy rainfall" in Gujarat and Maharashtra over the next few days. Additionally, "very heavy rainfall" is expected in Madhya Pradesh today, Goa until July 27, Maharashtra until tomorrow and Gujarat for the next three days.

HP, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan On Heavy Rain Alert Until July 28

In the northwest, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan are likely to experience "heavy rainfall" until July 28. Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh can expect similar conditions today, with Uttar Pradesh continuing to see heavy showers until July 27.

Meanwhile, the southern states are also bracing for intense monsoon activity. Karnataka is forecast to receive "very heavy rainfall" on July 25, while Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala are expected to see "heavy rainfall" until July 26 and 27.

'Heavy Rain' In Odisha Until July 26

The weather department has also predicted "very heavy rainfall" in Odisha until July 26, with isolated heavy rainfall expected on July 27th and 28th. The northeastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, West Bengal and Sikkim are also likely to experience isolated heavy rainfall on July 27 and 28.
