Weather News: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a steady rise in temperatures across northern and northwestern parts of India in the coming days, with heatwave conditions expected in several regions. Maximum temperatures are likely to increase by 2 to 3 degrees C in states such as Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.
In Delhi, the minimum temperature dropped to 23.3 degrees C, which is about 2.1 degrees C below the seasonal norm. Morning humidity stood at 58per cent, and strong surface winds are expected later in the day. The maximum temperature could climb up to 40 degrees C, while the air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 126 at 9 am, placing it in the ‘moderate’ category, as per CPCB data.
Rajasthan is likely to experience a fresh heatwave from Thursday, especially in the Jodhpur and Bikaner regions, accompanied by dusty winds blowing at 30–40 km/h. Temperatures in areas like Bikaner and Sriganganagar could rise to 44–45 degrees C until Saturday. While eastern Rajasthan will mostly stay dry, parts of Bikaner, Jaipur, Bharatpur, Udaipur, and Kota may see light showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday.
In Northeast India, widespread rain along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30–50 km/h) are expected. The IMD also warned of extremely heavy rainfall in isolated parts of Meghalaya on May 14.
Western India including Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Gujarat is also set to receive rain from May 14 to 18. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely in Madhya Maharashtra on May 15.
In South India, hailstorms are expected in parts of Telangana on May 14. Meanwhile, the eastern and central regions, including the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, are likely to receive heavy rain on May 14 and 15. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are also predicted to get heavy to very heavy showers between May 14 and 17.
