Weather Update Today: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast significant weather changes across the country, with South India bracing for heavy rainfall and northern and central regions witnessing a sharp drop in temperatures. According to the IMD, a low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal, situated off the Sri Lankan coast, remains active and is likely to move west-northwestward within the next 24 hours. Additionally, a persistent cyclonic circulation over the southeast Arabian Sea and the adjoining south Kerala coast is influencing weather patterns across the region.
Rainfall Predicted In These States
Under the combined impact of these systems, widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is expected over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Mahe, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands in the coming days. Tamil Nadu, in particular, is likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall between November 16 and 22, with the most intense showers predicted on Sunday and Monday. Gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph are also anticipated over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands through November 20.
Snowfall Areas
In contrast, the northern hilly states, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, continue to receive snowfall, leading to a noticeable dip in temperatures across the plains. The IMD has observed that temperatures in these states will continue to fall gradually. The snowfall has not only enhanced cold conditions but has also drawn tourists to the mountains.
Temperature Dropped Down
Cold wave to severe cold wave conditions were reported in several regions of central India, including Madhya Pradesh, eastern Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, over the past 24 hours. Minimum temperatures fell by 2-3 Degree Celsius across many parts of central, northwest, east and north peninsular India. Rajgarh in western Madhya Pradesh recorded the lowest temperature among plains at 6 Degree Celsius. Dense fog was also noted in isolated pockets of Odisha.
