Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rain over the next 48 hours in Gujarat and Rajasthan. In this regard, the weather body has issued a red alert for parts of Gujarat and a yellow alert for several districts in Rajasthan.

As per IMD, the deep depression over North Gujarat and adjoining southwest Rajasthan moved west-northwest as of 5.30 am on September 8. It was centred near the Rajasthan–Pakistan border, about 150 km southwest of Barmer and 180 km from both Jaisalmer and Bhuj. The weather system is likely to weaken into a depression by Monday afternoon.

Rajasthan Weather

All schools and Anganwadi centres were closed on Monday by the Jaisalmer administration. “This order has been issued in light of the IMD alert, which anticipates heavy rainfall during the next 24 hours in the district,” district collector Pratap Singh said, as quoted by ANI.

Dausa has also been severely impacted with over 177 mm of rains. Waterlogging was reported across several roads after the Haripura dam overflowed. Union minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore went to flood-hit areas in Dausa on Sunday. He announced Rs 16 crore for repairing nearly 650 schools and 16 dams.

Gujarat Weather

Heavy rain is likely to lash Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Mehsana, Patan, and parts of Saurashtra-Kutch.

Additionally, South Gujarat has been placed under an orange alert. Strong showers are expected in Ahmedabad, Surendranagar, and Kheda. IMD has warned fishermen against venturing out in the sea during this time.
