Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that several northern states are likely to witness cold waves and dense fog for the next few days. The minimum temperature in most of these states is expected to be calculated below 10 degrees Celsius. The presence of dense fog has severely affected the visibility in the morning hours, leading to the cancellation of train and flight services in at least ten states. While the hilly regions are set to witness snowfall, the coastal regions of the southern states are also likely to witness light rain. The weather department has advised the residents to follow the guidelines and limit their outings to avoid inconveniences.
The weather department has stated that the Delhi-NCR is set to witness a cold wave amid a sharp drop in temperature in the past two to three days. The visibility has significantly reduced in the national capital due to the presence of dense fog throughout the whole day. The air quality of Delhi and other nearby cities remained in the very poor category on Saturday despite the strict restrictions. The IMD has stated that the air quality is not likely to improve for the next few days; however, the situation is likely to improve slightly in the last week of December.
The IMD has stated that several districts of Uttar Pradesh are set to witness thick layers of fog in the upcoming days. Amid a cold wave situation and sudden drop in temperature, the administration has announced the closure of schools in several districts, including Kanpur and Bareilly. The weather department has also stated that several regions of Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal are also set to witness a cold wave and dense fog.

The IMD stated that light snowfall is expected in the higher regions of Himachal Pradesh, including Lahaul-Spiti, Kullu, Kangra, Mandi, and Shimla, for the next few days. It further stated that these regions are also expected to witness light rain, along with a cold wave.
