Weather Update Today: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Rajasthan, warning of heavy rainfall on Monday. Several key cities and regions across India are likely to witness rain and thunderstorms on October 6 due to a Western Disturbance over the northwest and the impact of Severe Cyclonic Storm Shakti. A yellow alert has also been issued for Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, and the northeastern states.

Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are forecast for several interior and coastal regions between October 6 and 9, including Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Rayalaseema, and Telangana.

Bengal Weather Update 

In West Bengal, torrential rains have worsened the crisis in the Darjeeling hills, leaving 20 people dead and many others missing. The IMD has forecast isolated heavy rainfall over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal on Monday. Mirik and nearby towns remain cut off after the collapse of the Balasan River bridge, the only direct link to Siliguri. So far, 13 bodies have been recovered in Mirik, while 10 people, including tourist Himadri Purkayet from Kolkata, are still missing. Army and NDRF teams are carrying out rescue operations in the affected areas.

Delhi Weather Update

Delhi and nearby cities received heavy rain early Monday. The IMD forecast a cloudy sky with light to moderate showers, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. Temperatures are expected to range between 22-24 Degree Celsius (minimum) and 28-30 Degree Celsius (maximum).

Northeast And Northwest Weather Update 

1. Northwest India will see fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds till Tuesday.

2. Isolated heavy rainfall is forecast on October 6 over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, west Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, west Uttar Pradesh, east Rajasthan, and on October 6-7 in Uttarakhand.

3. Very heavy rainfall is expected on Monday in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh.

4. An isolated hailstorm is likely on October 6 in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, west Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Rajasthan.

5. Northeast India will have light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms, with isolated heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh (October 6 and 10), Assam and Meghalaya (till October 10), Nagaland (October 6-11), Manipur (October 8-9), and Mizoram (October 8).
