Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that the monsoon arrived in Punjab on Sunday, 10 days before its scheduled time, via western Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh. The weather department stated that the hilly regions have been receiving light to heavy rainfall continuously for the past few days. It further stated that the monsoon is likely to arrive in several other states, including Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi, in the next two days. The IMD stated that the rainfall in these states will reduce the temperature by two to four degrees Celsius, providing major relief from the scorching heat.

The weather department also stated that if the monsoon arrives in Delhi on June 24, it will be the earliest monsoon arrival since 2013. While providing details, the IMD stated that the monsoon had arrived on June 16 in 2013. It further stated that while the monsoon had arrived on June 30 in 2022, it arrived in the national capital on July 13 in 2021.

Apart from this, the IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rains in northwest India, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Konkan and Goa till June 26. The weather department also predicted extremely heavy rains in Madhya Pradesh on June 23 and 24.

Earlier on Sunday, the weather department issued orange and yellow alerts for several districts of Maharashtra, stating that the southwest monsoon will bring intensified rains from June 23. While providing details, the IMD stated that the ghat regions of Central Maharashtra, Konkan, and Goa will witness heavy to very heavy rainfall between June 22 and 25.

The IMD has advised the residents to follow the guidelines and limit their outings to avoid any inconveniences. Apart from this, several southern states, including Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana, are also expected to witness light to heavy rainfall in the upcoming few days.
