Weather Update:  Torrential rains have caused havoc in the national capital and its surrounding cities over the past few days. Severe waterlogging and persistent traffic snarls were seen after heavy rain hit Delhi, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, Noida and Faridabad on Wednesday. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for rain in the national capital on Friday. There is a chance of heavy rain in the NCR, including Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad.

The weather department stated that isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Punjab, Haryana, parts of Uttar Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Northeast India on July 11. Heavy rains are likely to continue in Vidarbha, coastal Karnataka, Konkan and Goa, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir on July 11.

Isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh, and Meghalaya in the next seven days.

“Light to moderate rainfall at most/many places accompanied with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds speed reaching 30-40 kmph likely over the region during the next 7 days,” IMD stated.

The IMD issued an alert for a low to moderate flash flood risk in six districts of Himachal Pradesh, including Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, and Sirmaur districts, for a period of 24 hours. Monsoon has created havoc in Himachal Pradesh as 23 flash floods, 19 cloudbursts and 16 landslides were reported across Himachal, as per the State Disaster Management Team.

The weather department has advised residents to follow official updates and limit outings, especially in high-risk areas.
