With the start of the new year, northern India is experiencing a severe cold wave, affecting both the plains and hilly regions. Snowfall continues in the mountainous states, while the plains are witnessing a sharp drop in temperature due to chilly winds. The cold is particularly intense in Delhi, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh, where the minimum temperature has fallen by more than five degrees Celsius in many areas.
Yellow Alert In Several Districts Of Uttar Pradesh
In Uttar Pradesh, after three days of continuous cold and chilly winds, the sun appeared in several districts on Wednesday afternoon. The meteorological department has predicted dry weather starting from January 3. A yellow alert has been issued for several districts, including Shravasti, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, and Bareilly, for January 3 due to the ongoing cold wave.

Moderate Fog And Cold Winds In Bihar
In Bihar, including the capital Patna, moderate fog is expected during the morning hours. The cold north-western winds continue to worsen the chill. The cold wave has also intensified in Jharkhand, and no major change in the minimum temperature is expected for the next three days. Fog is expected to persist during early mornings and late nights in the capital and surrounding areas.
Cold Day Conditions In Madhya Pradesh
In Madhya Pradesh, the minimum temperature has dropped by three to four degrees in most areas. Kalyanpur, Shahdol recorded the lowest temperature of 6.1°C, making it the coldest place in the state. A cold day warning has been issued for 14 districts, with dense to moderate fog expected.
Extreme Cold In Rajasthan Reeling Under Extreme Cold
Rajasthan is experiencing extreme cold in areas like Sri Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, and Sikar, with maximum temperatures recorded below 16°C. However, the weather department predicts some relief starting Thursday.
Dense Fog, Frost In Uttarakhand
In Uttarakhand, the plains are witnessing fog during the mornings and evenings, and the cold is worsening in the mountainous areas due to frost. The weather department has warned of fog in the morning in Dehradun and other plains, with frost likely in the mountains on Thursday.
Cold Wave Continues In Punjab
Punjab has been enduring a cold wave for the past four days. On Wednesday, daytime temperatures dropped by about seven degrees Celsius. Most districts recorded night temperatures between 8 and 9 degrees Celsius, with daytime temperatures between 11 and 12 degrees Celsius. The weather department has predicted cold day conditions for Thursday, with dense fog in the morning. Light rainfall is expected in some districts on January 5.
Fog Disruptions Traffic In Himachal
Himachal Pradesh has been facing dense fog in the plains of Kangra, Una, Mandi, and Bilaspur, causing traffic disruptions on Wednesday morning. Visibility in Mandi's Sundernagar was around 100 meters. A yellow alert has been issued for Thursday for dense fog in these areas. In the higher regions, temperatures in areas like Tabo, Samdho, Kukumseri, Kalpa, and Rickangpio have dipped into the negative range, with Tabo recording the lowest temperature of -16.7°C.

Snowfall And Rain In J-K
Jammu and Kashmir are experiencing intense cold, with temperatures consistently remaining below freezing. The western disturbance has begun to affect the region, leading to rainfall in the higher mountainous areas. From Thursday, light snowfall is expected in the mountains, while rain will begin in the lower regions.
