North-India Weather Update: A cold wave has gripped the entire north India and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a further drop in the temperature with the new year. While the sky will remain clear, strong winds will blow at a speed of 25 to 35 km per hour. The maximum temperature is likely to settle at 17 degrees, while the minimum may remain around 9 degrees. A yellow alert has also been issued.
The IMD has predicted cold day to severe cold day conditions at a few places over Haryana and at isolated places over Rajasthan and cold day conditions at isolated places over Jammu& Kashmir, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.
According to the weather department, cold wave conditions expected at a few places over Himachal Pradesh and at isolated places over Jammu& Kashmir. Dense to very dense fog at a few places over Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh and dense fog at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
The north Indian hill town of Dharamshala and its surrounding areas continue to shiver under an intense cold wave, with the minimum temperature hovering between 0 and 1 degree Celsius last night. The Dhauladhar mountains are blanketed in fresh snowfall.
In areas like Naddi, Dharamkot, Bhagsunag, and McLeodganj, the minimum temperature has dropped to zero to one degree Celsius, while the daytime temperature hovers around four to five degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the national capital on Monday witnessed cold wave with fog. The visibility was also low due to the fog. On Monday, the maximum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 15.0°C, which is 5.4°C below normal. The minimum temperature was 10.3°C, which is 3.5°C above normal. The humidity level in the air ranged from 98% to 74%. At Safdarjung, the visibility level at 5:30 AM was recorded at only 600 meters.
The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) has set up 235 pagoda tents to provide shelter to homeless people. Night shelters have been set up in several areas of the national capital including AIIMS, Lodhi Road, and Nizamuddin flyover.
