Weather Update: According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), monsoon is active across the country. Floods and landslides have claimed several lives in northern states. At least 34 people were killed during a landslide on the Vaishno Devi pilgrimage route. Apart from this, multiple rivers are in spate due to relentless rain in North India. As per the weather body, light to moderate showers are expected in Jammu division on August 29 and 30.

Telangana Records Record-Breaking Rain

Normal life has also been disrupted in Southern states. In the last 24 hours, heavy rain battered Kamareddy and Medak districts of Telangana, breaking a 50-year-old record. National Highway 44 has also collapsed at three places, jagran.com reported.

Ganga, Yamuna Rivers Close To Danger Mark In UP

In Uttar Pradesh, the water levels of Ganga and Yamuna Rivers have started receding after reaching close to the danger mark,causing extensive damage. About 76 roads and two dozen streets have also been submerged. More than 1.5 lakh people have been affected by the floods with the Ganga ghats losing all connectivity. People have been shifted to relief camps amid rising water levels.

The famous Ganga Aarti that happens at Dashaswamedh Ghat is now being performed on the roof of Ganga Seva Nidhi. The Manikarnika Ghat is also flooded.

Incessant Rain In Rajasthan

Rain activity continued in Rajasthan on Thursday. Karauli, Udaipur, Pratapgarh, Jhalawar, Chittorgarh, Ajmer, Bhilwara, Banswara, Bharatpur, Rajsamand and Jaipur received light to moderate rainfall.

Rivers In Spate In Punjab 

As per news agency PTI, over 6,600 people have been rescued from flood-affected areas in Punjab. All-Terrain Off-Road (ATOR) vehicles and boats were used in Amritsar's Ramdas area to rescue stuck residents.

Meanwhile, drones were deployed in Gurdaspur’s Dera Baba Nanak area. These were used to deliver food, medicines and bottled water to people in flood areas.

Rivers like the Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi are currently in spate in Punjab causing widespread destruction to farmlands and villages.

Himachal Reels Under Impact Of Monsoon

Himachal Pradesh continues to reel under the impact of the ongoing monsoon season, with 524 roads, including two national highways, blocked, 1,230 electricity distribution transformers disrupted, and 416 water supply schemes rendered non-functional as of Thursday evening, as per date shared by the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA).

Rescue and relief operations remain in full swing, especially in Chamba district, where 7,000-8,000 pilgrims undertaking the Manimahesh Yatra were stranded earlier this week.

Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri said more than 3,000 pilgrims had been rescued so far, with four helicopters stationed in Chamba and others deployed in Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti for emergency evacuations.
