Weather Update: Severe cold and dense fog continue to grip large parts of North and Central India. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), cold wave conditions are prevailing in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. Normal life has been disrupted due to snowfall in the mountainous regions and icy winds sweeping across the plains. The cold is expected to intensify further over the next 48 hours in North India as cold winds from the hilly areas continue to remain active.

Delhi- NCR: Double Whammy Of Fog And Pollution

-Thursday morning started with moderate to dense fog in Delhi and surrounding areas  including Noida, Gurugram and Ghaziabad.

-Temperature: The minimum temperature is expected to be between 8 degrees Celsius to 10 degrees Celsius.

-Alert: Air and rail traffic may be affected. Passengers are advised to check the status with IndiGo or the respective airline before heading out.

Uttar Pradesh And Madhya Pradesh Weather: Orange Alert Issued

-UP: An orange alert for very dense fog is in effect for several districts in western and eastern Uttar Pradesh. Visibility is expected to be less than 50 metres in Varanasi, Kanpur and Lucknow.

-MP: An intense cold wave is affecting the Gwalior and Chambal divisions. Minimum temperatures may drop to 7 degrees Celsius in some parts of the state.

Punjab And Haryana Weather: Severe Cold Warning

Due to humidity and cold winds in Punjab and Haryana, visibility reached close to zero on Thursday morning. Due to activation of Western Disturbance from December 18, there may be light drizzle in Amritsar and Pathankot, which will further increase the cold.

Kashmir and Himachal Weather: Snowfall Alert

-Kashmir: Snowfall has already begun in the higher reaches of North Kashmir, even before Chillai-Kalan hits the valley. Temperatures in Srinagar have already dropped below zero (-2.0 degrees Celsius).

-Himachal and Uttarakhand Weather: Fresh snowfall is expected in high-altitude areas like Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti, and Chamoli on December 18-19. According to Himachal Tourism, tourists are advised to avoid high-altitude roads.
