Snowfall in the higher altitudes brought a significant dip in temperatures across North India. States like Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are experiencing colder conditions due to icy winds. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast dense fog for parts of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand today, warning of reduced visibility and potential travel disruptions.
Heavy Rains Forecast For Southern States
The IMD issued an alert predicting heavy rain with isolated thunderstorms and lightning over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal from November 25 to 28. The Nicobar Islands are also likely to witness heavy rain today. Kerala, Mahe, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema may experience isolated rainfall on November 26 and 27.
A low-pressure area over the east Equatorial Indian Ocean, influenced by an upper air cyclonic circulation, is expected to intensify into a depression over the central south Bay of Bengal by November 25. This system may move northwestward towards the Tamil Nadu-Sri Lanka coasts. Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the Andaman Sea and surrounding regions due to stormy weather and wind speeds reaching 55 kmph between November 25 and 27.
Delhi Suffers Severe Pollution Crisis
Delhi remains enveloped in hazardous air. On Saturday, its Air Quality Index (AQI) hit 412, marking it as the most polluted city in India for the second consecutive day. Bihar's Katihar followed with an AQI of 355.
On Sunday morning, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) recorded Delhi’s AQI at 422, with some hotspots like Anand Vihar surpassing 450. For over a week, the capital's air quality has exceeded the severe threshold of 400, sparking significant health concerns for residents.
