North India is experiencing severe cold waves, dense fog and snowfall in several parts due to the influence of western disturbance. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a 'Red' alert in several different of western Uttar Pradesh and an 'Orange' alert in some districts of Haryana warning of cold waves and dense fog for the next few days. 

Delhi Weather Update 

Delhi recorded its lowest temperature of the season at 3.3 degrees Celsius on Monday morning, with dense fog prevailing in most parts of the city. The IMD also issued an ‘orange’ alert, warning of a cold wave for today and tomorrow. The met agency also stated that moderate fog will continue to prevail in Delhi NCR till January 20.    

Uttar Pradesh Weather Update 

The IMD said that a cold wave is expected to prevail in most of the districts in Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow for the next two days while adding that dense fog is very likely in districts of western Uttar Pradesh. The meteorological department issued a red alert, warning of low temperatures and dense fog in the morning hours till Tuesday. 

Haryana Weather Update 

Haryana is also facing the brunt of cold winds due to which IMD issued an 'Orange' alert in some districts including Bhiwani, Hisar and Mahendragarh while a 'Yellow' alert was issued in Jhajjar and Rohtak. The state is likely to witness cold days with foggy conditions for the next few days.

Himachal Weather Update 

Himachal Pradesh is witnessing a spell of severe cold days. The hilly state witnessed light snowfall in the mountains due to the active western disturbance in the region. IMD has forecasted snowfall and rain in the higher and lower areas of the state on January 16 and 17 while a Yellow alert has also been issued regarding dense smog in seven districts of the state.

Jammu And Kashmir Weather Update 

Jammu recorded the lowest minimum temperature of the season at 2.5 degrees Celsius on Saturday night, which was 4.5 degrees Celsius below normal. The cold wave and fog also affected the day temperature, which was 9.6 degrees Celsius, about 8 degrees Celsius below normal. Jammu was colder than Dras, Kupwara, Pahalgam, Sonamarg, Bhaderwah and Srinagar during the day on Saturday.

The Meteorological Department has predicted no change in the weather conditions for the next few days. The fog is likely to increase and reduce visibility further.

Uttarakhand Weather Update 

Uttarakhand is experiencing low temperatures, with fog enveloping the plains. The Regional  Meteorological Center has issued a yellow alert for moderate to dense fog in the plains for the next two days, while the weather is expected to remain dry. However, a fresh western disturbance may bring some relief to the state on Wednesday, as it may cause light rain and snowfall in the Himalayan regions. The people of the state are eagerly waiting for rain and snowfall in the dry winter season.
