Weather Updates: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in parts of Andhra Pradesh from July 7 to 11. Thunderstorms are likely in parts of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP), Yanam, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP) and Rayalaseema.

"The cyclonic circulation over the west central Bay of Bengal off the south Andhra Pradesh coast persists and is now seen at 5.8 km above mean sea level," said the weather body in a press release.

Specifically on Sunday, the department forecast the possibility of heavy rain in parts of NCAP and Yanam. Strong winds up to the speed of 40 kmph have been predicted in the rain-affected places for two days from Sunday.

On July 8, heavy rain is likely at isolated places over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, while thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely at isolated places over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema. Strong winds with speeds reaching 30-40 kmph are likely over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, as per IMD.

On July 9, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely to occur at isolated places over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema. Strong winds with speeds reaching 30-40 kmph are likely over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, the weather body further informed.

According to the IMD, Andhra Pradesh recorded 166.9 mm of rainfall between June 1 and July 5, which is an excess rainfall of 52 per cent for this period.

The heavy rainfall experienced across large parts of India in the first week of July has made up for the 11 per cent deficit recorded in June, pushing the total monsoon precipitation into the surplus category, as reported by PTI.
