Bengal Govt Employees DA Hike: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's government had announced a four per cent increase in DA (dearness allowance) for state government employees in the budget. Nabanna announced on Tuesday that this increased DA will be effective from April 1. As a result, the dearness allowance of state government employees has increased to 18 per cent. Meanwhile, the DA case in the Supreme Court has been postponed again. Now the hearing is likely to take place in April, jagran.com reported

The difference in dearness allowance between central government employees and state employees is still 35 per cent. After the state government issued a notification to implement the DA increase, leftist organizations of government employees have expressed dissatisfaction over the discrepancy. Members of the leftist organization have called for a three-hour strike in government offices across the state from April 7 to 9 demanding proper dearness allowance.

The Trinamool Employees Organization has welcomed the government's announcement. In her budget speech on February 12, Minister of State for Finance (Independent Charge) Chandrima Bhattacharya had announced a four per cent increase in dearness allowance for state government employees. Nabanna announced the implementation of the increased DA through a notification on Tuesday. The notification states that apart from state government employees, DA of government-aided school teachers, non-teaching staff, government-owned, panchayat and municipal employees has also been increased.

They will get this dearness allowance from April 1. However, leftist employee organizations have expressed anger over this. On behalf of the Coordination Committee, Vishwajit Gupta Choudhary said, “39 per cent DA is pending. Only four per cent has been given. Still a huge amount of dearness allowance is pending. We are not happy with the government's announcement. I am not happy even after the notification was issued. Bengali employees are lagging behind in terms of DA.”
